Betty Kilburn

Betty, my mother, was taken from us on 17th September 2007, after being diagnosed with lung cancer exactly three months earlier. Betty was a wonderfully quiet, kind, caring person who was always considering others and never herself. Betty was also the most courageous person I have ever known.

Wendy Knowles

Wendy discovered that she had lung cancer in January 2007 just three months before she was due to retire from her job as a special needs teacher. Despite the bitter blow she fought bravely for over two years, going through three chemotherapy cycles. She found Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support very helpful.

It would have been my dad's 80th birthday on 28th March so we will be remembering him in our celebration too. My husband John sadly lost his fight with lung cancer on 9.4.08. He was 69. John fought every inch of the way with his positive attitude and utter determination. The family were devastated at his loss and I have lost my soul mate and best friend.

Laura was only 26 when she passed away with lung cancer. She had no chance of any treatment as she was diagnosed just 3 weeks before she died. Laura was a good soul who took her Nana and Grandad shopping on her days off work. She also had 4 Godchildren who she doted on. As well as working full time she enjoyed baking and decorating cakes.

Jean Marsh died on 22nd November 2018, aged 82, after a shortillness, formerly of Downside Road. Devoted and much loved mother of Sharon and Fiona and loving grandma to Oscar and Jack.

This tribute fund has been set up in remembrance of Patricia Julia Prendergast. Pat had just turned 63 when she passed away on August 20th 2007, 21 months after diagnosis of this terrible disease. Sadly, like so many, diagnosis came as a total shock and too late to offer Mum much hope.

My darling Dad Peter Kicul passed away in the early hours of 22nd June 2009. At his funeral alone, we raised £4,000 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation due to your amazing generosity. Since then, the Peter Kicul Tribute Fund has reached over £10,000 in just over a year.

Shirley Jones

Mum died on 2nd February 2007, 7 months after diagnosis. The picture was taken on New Years Eve 2006, 33 days earlier. Never one to complain she leaves a huge void amongst her family and friends. Mum was the most kind and generous person we have ever known. We hope this fund will help prevent this happening to other families.

Alex died some two and a half months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He never accepted that he was terminally ill. He was only 29. He was an intelligent, witty and knowledgeable person. Because he was young when he died, I would like to help towards more research into and a more widely spread knowledge of this dreadful illness.

George Thomas Simmonds, a much loved Husband, Dad and Grandad, who is missed more than words could ever express. George passed away on 17th October 2013 from lung cancer. He was always positive in the belief that it would be held at bay, not necessarily cured, but that he could still have a life. He was only 68 years old when he passed away.

My brother Gordon was 45 when he died on 23rd October 2013. He was diagnosed in July 2013 after numerous visits to the doctor . By the time he was diagnosed the cancer had spread to other parts of his body and he was terminally ill.

I lost my dad, Frank Kennedy to mesothelioma lung cancer in 2005, aged 57. He was a kind, funny, hard working gentleman who is very much missed by all of his family and friends. Pam died an aggressive form of lung cancer on 26th November 2006, aged 58. She suffered symptoms for only one month, before that she had walked the dog for nearly three miles each day.
